Okay, so i am trying to research into MTB pedals but am getting more and more confused as to what everything means as i read more… so i figured i’d ask here
I am looking for some clip in, mountain bike shoes, for XC mainly… and daily commuting to and from school.
Shoes to go with them too, ive had a long look at something like
http://www.shimano.com.au/publish/content/global_cycle/en/au/index/products/pedals/mountain/product.-code-PD-M647.-type-pd_mountain.html
and im wondering if theyd be a good option?
and what shoes do i get to go with them?
i figured shimano shoes would go with shimano pedals..
i have around a 150$ budget for pedals
and a 150$ budget for shoes as well (this can be increased a tad if neccesary)
thanks in advance
Those pedals look like a good idea. With the platform you could probably use them with standard shoes too.
Another option is the Crank Bros Candy pedals which are good for XC riding, but with a little platform for extra support. Very popular.
I’m a big fan of Crank Bros pedals over Shimano. They seem to work better in general for the clipping and unclipping as well as when pedaling. Plus, Crank Bros customer service is second to none!

You can get any brand mountain biking shoe, which will all be SPD compatible. Any "SPD compatible" shoe will work with Shimano or Crank Bros cleats and pedals.
Some brands to check include Shimano, Sidi, Northwave, and Specialized.
